PRIVATE VIEW: DESKS, DRUDGERY AND THE DICTIONARY
WITH THE CURATORS AT DR JOHNSON'S HOUSE
Thursday 25 July, 12:45PM - 1:45PM • Dr Johnson's House, Gough Square
Join us this July for a Dr Johnson's House Lunchtime special Private View, sponsored by Fleet Street Quarter.
Book your ticket via Eventbrite here.
This exhibition showcases new aspects of Johnson's garret lexicography, exploring why the garret was so important in Johnson's move to Gough Square. We'll also be exploring how Johnson and his assistants worked on the Dictionary before it was published in 1755. As part of this, we'll be presenting the history – and mystery – of Johnson’s 'Dictionary Desk' which is being returned to Gough Square for the first time in 200 years.
Speaking will be Celine Luppo McDaid, the Director and Curator of Dr Johnson's House, and Prof. Lynda Mugglestone, professor of English Language at Pembroke College, Oxford who co-curated the exhibition.
