GUIDED WALK OF DR JOHNSON'S LONDON
WITH CITY GUIDE, GRETHE HAUGE
Thursday 29 August, 12:30PM - 2:00PM • Dr Johnson's House, Gough Square
Join us this August for a guided walk through Dr. Johnson’s London with City Guide Grethe Hauge, sponsored by Fleet Street Quarter.
Johnson was a great admirer of London and said of the Fleet Street area “If you want to have a just notion of the magnitude of this city, you must not be satisfied with seeing its great streets and squares, but must survey its innumerable little lane."
Over the duration of the walk you will weave in and out of ancient alleyways around Fleet Street, passing places familiar to Samuel Johnson. You will hear about his life, his times and his friends. You will pass where he went to church and discover his favourite taverns, where he would meet friends to ‘have his talk out’.
Gather at the House at 12.30pm for a light lunch, and the walk will begin at 1pm. The walk will take an hour and finish back at Gough Square by the statue of Johnson’s cat, Hodge.
Book your ticket via Eventbrite here.
Lunch will be served at this event: please let us know 48 hours in advance, via an Eventbrite message, if you have any specific dietary requirements or have any allergies.
