3. CREATING A CONNECTED COMMUNITY

Promoting a vibrant and progressive cultural calendar will attract new audiences and talent to the area. Working closely with our business members and the City Corporation we will deliver The Square Mile: Future City plan.

We aim to create an inclusive, innovative, sustainable business ecosystem. By galvanising the area’s rich talent-pool we will generate this progressive and lively location with far-reaching offers incorporating leisure, hospitality and culture.

Our community is vital to our work, and there is a unique sense of Neighbourhood across the footprint. This is something we are immensely proud of, and as a BID look forward to harnessing and building this even further with our community.

Based on the responses we received during a Perception Analysis with Fleet Street Quarter businesses, we have identified four strategic themes for the Fleet Street Quarter BID.

Through careful stewardship and curation, our programme of work fosters inclusion, diversity, innovation, celebrate culture and help deliver a green, sustainable and safe business district. The BID creates a strong business collective, providing a powerful voice for local businesses, who are represented on Steering Groups for each Key Strategic Theme,  which guide the work of the FSQ BID Executive Team.

FOUR KEY STRATEGIC THEMES

2. CLEAN AND GREEN

The BID footprint spans just over 43 hectares, made up of a network of weaving streets, characterful alleyways and courtyards. A challenge we face in the Fleet Street Quarter though, are these narrow footpaths as well as limited squares and a deficiency of green spaces.

We will work in partnership with the City Corporation on a programme of investment for high quality public realm and explore using our spaces in innovative ways and exploring new opportunities.

As well as enhancing the physical experience when visiting the area, the BID will focus on collaborating with our Business Community and Public Sector Partners to tackle climate change and air quality issues - making our district more climate resilient, and thus, crucially, future-proofing the Fleet Street Quarter.

1. PUTTING FLEET STREET QUARTER BACK ON THE MAP

The Fleet Street Quarter already stands proud, with its rich character, landmark heritage and vibrant history. However, the hit of the pandemic demonstrated the value and fragility placed on the ecosystem of this location – resulting in an exodus of footfall and lasting impact felt across retail, leisure and cultural establishments.

Through close collaborations and partnerships, we will champion a cohesive strategy to create a vibrant and dynamic location that will reposition the Fleet Street Quarter as the location to work, visit, live and invest in.

4. SAFE AND SECURE

The BID will take a strategic approach which will seek to tackle challenges and critical security issues for businesses: from the threat of terrorism and anti-social behaviour to clean streets, rough sleeping and low-level street crime. We want our area to feel both safe and secure during the day, but also in the evening as we continue support the growth of the night-time economy.

Our Fleet Street Quarter Ambassador team provide a visual presence around the Fleet Street Quarter area Monday to Friday, ensuring the area is as safe and clean as possible, as well as providing a welcoming face to the Quarter so that it can be enjoyed to the maximum by the local workforce and visitors alike.

To ensure this, the BID works closely with the City of London Police, the City of London Corporation, and local businesses to keep the district well managed, clean, and safe.
