BEWARE OF GYM THEFTS THIS WINTER

FOLLOW CITY OF LONDON POLICE GUIDANCE TO KEEP YOUR BELONGINGS SAFE

As many focus on fitness heading into the new year, we would like to highlight City of London Police data collected this time last year, January to March 2024, in which gyms in the City experienced a seasonal spike in thefts, likely due to increased attendance and the use of day passes allowing easier access.

These incidents occurred citywide, with no specific gym targeted. Stolen items often included high-value watches, jewellery, wallets, and bank cards, leading to fraudulent transactions in some cases. Most thefts involved forced entry into lockers using tools like bolt cutters to gain access.

To help reduce these incidents this year, remember to follow Police guidance:

  1. Avoid bringing high-value items to the gym.

  2. Store valuables securely at work or keep them with you during your workout.

  3. Use high-quality locks and avoid leaving items unattended in lockers.

It is important that if a locker is broken into, please avoid touching the lock or surfaces to preserve evidence. Officers can be deployed to investigate and collect forensic evidence promptly which will aid investigations.

Thank you for your continued vigilance in helping to prevent these thefts. If you have any questions, please contact Fleet Street Quarter Safe and Secure Manager, Beth Nash at beth.nash@fleetstreetquarter.co.uk
