JOINING FORCES FOR SAFER NIGHTS IN THE CITY
OPERATION REFRAME IN THE FLEET STREET QUARTER
At Fleet Street Quarter, we are proud to have played a pivotal role in April's Operation Reframe, an initiative that highlights the power of collaboration in creating a safer, more inclusive night-time economy. In partnership with the City of London Police and other key stakeholders, we helped deliver a night of proactive policing, welfare support, and community reassurance across the Quarter.
In a first for the City of London Police, we led the creation of a second welfare hub located near Blackfriars Station. Staffed by both Fleet Street Quarter staff, Police and representatives from City of London Corporation, this new site provided vital support and a visible safety presence, especially for women, girls, and vulnerable people visiting, working, or living in the area. This innovative step reflects our strong commitment to the City's broader vision: a vibrant, safe, and secure environment for all to enjoy.
While Operation Reframe is a monthly operation powered by the City of London Police, its success relies on the collective effort of all involved. The turnout and cooperation on the night demonstrated just how much can be achieved when businesses, local authorities, and local partners come together with a shared purpose. It’s important to note that this initiative isn’t a response to increased criminal activity in the area but a proactive approach to crime prevention. By engaging with the community, our friendly ambassadors conducted high-visibility patrols alongside police officers, helping to identify and address areas of concern for further investigation.
We’re immensely grateful to the many partners who took part in making the evening a success. In total, our efforts bought together 10 police officers, three Fleet Street Quarter team members, two Fleet Street Quarter Ambassadors, two St John’s Ambulance cycle medics, and the lead Community Safety Officer at City of London Corporation.
Operation Reframe by Numbers:
7 ‘AskforAngela’ safety tests – 100% pass rate
2 arrests for drink and drug driving by Roads Policing
3 further arrests by plain clothes officers and cycle team
40+ mobile phones security-marked across two locations
2 dedicated patrol teams covering Fleet St North and South
58 engagements at Blackfriars Night-time Safety Hub
More than 60 police officers and partners on reassurance patrols throughout the night.
The results speak volumes, but beyond the numbers, it’s the level of community reassurance that is provided by visibility and engagement that we strive to achieve. With thanks to Ross Morton, Police Licensing Inspector - Alcohol, Firearms & Explosives Licensing Manager.
